Supplements & Vitamins for Tiredness

If you're feeling tired, it might be helpful to address the root causes, but certain supplements and vitamins can sometimes provide a boost if you're lacking in specific nutrients. Here are a few that could help.

  • Vitamin B12: Is essential for energy production and maintaining healthy nerve function. A deficiency can lead to fatigue and weakness.

  • Iron: Is crucial for transporting oxygen in your blood. Low iron levels (anemia) can lead to extreme tiredness.

  • Vitamin D: Supports bone health and immune function. Low levels are linked to fatigue and feeling low in energy.

  • Magnesium: Is involved in over 300 biochemical reactions in your body, including energy production. It helps relax muscles and can improve sleep, leading to better rest.

  • Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is an antioxidant that helps produce energy in cells. It can sometimes reduce fatigue, particularly in individuals with chronic fatigue or those taking statin medications.

  • Rhodiola Rosea: An adaptogen herb, rhodiola may help reduce fatigue by improving your body's ability to handle stress.

  • Ashwagandha: Another adaptogen, ashwagandha, can help combat physical and mental stress, which may reduce feelings of exhaustion.

  • L-Carnitine: This amino acid plays a role in energy production by transporting fatty acids into cells for fuel. It can help reduce fatigue and increase stamina.

  • Folic Acid (Vitamin B9): Supports red blood cell production, and a deficiency can lead to anemia and tiredness.

  • Vitamin C: Is crucial for immune function and the absorption of iron from plant-based sources. It also supports energy levels by combating oxidative stress.

Prevention

You can relieve recurring tiredness by reducing some of the previously described vital factors. If you feel tired due to a medical condition, you should ask your doctor what medications you can take to treat your medical condition instead. Typically, tiredness is eliminated when your medical condition has improved.

  • Avoid unhealthy eating habits, eat more green foods and fruits, and remove junk food from your diet.

  • Stop smoking.

  • Reduce or eliminate alcohol intake.

  • Drink enough water during the day.

  • Reduce your stress triggers.

  • Sleep at least 8 hours every night.

  • Reduce your workload.

  • Implement relaxing activities such as painting or music.

  • Exercise daily.
